Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, March 20, 2003 4:10 PM
Hi there fellow modelers....

I have a huge problem (you people will probably think that it's funny) I have an Aztek 470 airbrush and I used red Testors Acrylic paint, I diluted it to a milky consistency... when I spayed it it came way too runny, I tried many consistencies even pure paint.... but it still was too runny... what can you people tell me please help me out... this is really frustrating!!! ahhhgggg!!!! one more Q.... what do you people usuallly use to dilute acrylics???

Thank you very much

rickyinc63,

I don't have much airbrush experience, but what I have done is with an Aztek and mostly with their acrylics. I sprayed it as it came in the bottle. It sounds like you are spraying too close and/or with too much volume of paint, just too much paint hitting the model at once. Try backing off and think in terms of making passes of lighter coats, not to try to have the finished look with one sweep of the airbrush.

When I saw some runniness start and backed off and as I described worked. Having said that, you can also get too far away and the paint starts to dry before hitting the surface, resutling in a rough or grainy surface. There's an inbetween but you should find it not hard to find.

Thoughts anyone else?

I assume you are using the White or Black nossle... I used to have that air-brush, and had a lot of success with it. I used lower pressures with it tho... 15-20psi.

And i did not thin much... about 20-30% thinner.

Keep experimenting and you should get good results with that airbrush.
