Hello;

Could someone tell me if Intermediate Blue is close to 5-S blue. In pictures it looks like they are close but I cant tell.

Your best bet is figuring out the Federal Standard number. I cannot find anything on 5-S blue.

Bill, what paint system doe 5-S Blue refer to, i can't find anything on it eitehr. And in my paint conversion chart, White Ensign did not do a match for Intermediate blue.

The only thing I could come up with that may be close is Flat Sea Blue.

That is from the WEM line of paints. I think 5-S is the navy code for the color.

5-S Sea Blue is a series of three colors used by the US Navy for ships. There are A, B and C , each a little different. These were in use from late 1941 until late 1944. There's all kinds of minor exceptions to what I've noted, but that's the basics.

For all you'll ever need to know, sort of, about warship colors, go here:

Generally the Navy used the Munsell color system.

To my eye, 5-S and Intermediate Blue are not close at all.

 Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I decided to go with  RAF P.R.U. Blue from Model Master.
