Drybrushing

I know drybrushing is used for highlighting raised detail but what about flat or curved areas on armor, for instance? Should you drybrush it or airbrush the highlight?

On a hard corner, I would drybrush, on a curve or over a large flat area I would spray in a hilight.  Have you considered trying black basing?  From what I understand it's a technique that works well for armor, and there's probably a good explanation available on Google.
