Advice wanted on compressors for someone who has never used an airbrush
Posted by Krackenthorpe on Thursday, December 24, 2015 10:43 AM

Hello,

I'm starting to build models (mostly WWII aircraft and armor) and I have a question about compressors.  I already own a air compressor that I use for air tools that has an air regulator.  Is it possible to put a water trap on it and then use a coupler to downsize the hose?  I am thinking that I could leave the compressor in the garage, set the regulator for a low pressure, run the hose into my work area, put another regulator for fine control, and couple it to a smaller hose for the airbrush.  Am I crazy or is that workable?  Big Smile

No problem at all, a water trap will be part of the regulator you put in the work area anyway, doubt you will need it but can't hurt. Plenty of adaptors to do what you need.

Cheers from Mick.

Some stuff that might be interesting.

I did it that way for years. I used iron pipe to pipe the air down into my basement shop from the garage.  I put a regulator on the end of the pipe- you want to be able to make air pressure changes from your workbench.
