There can be problems. Most of the time overcoating with dissimilar paint is ok. But there are times when probs arise, there are so many combinations possible. For instance, I want to remember Humbrol enamel not working over Tamiya primer.

Yes test. And, do not underestimate drying times. I usually go 3-5 days minimum.

As far as white, I do not get good results with acrylics. Yes others do, but I much prefer gloss white Testors enamel, either a/b or in a spray can.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

There are two different situations- one is painting different parts with different colors, the other is painting over previous paint with another type of paint.  You seem to be talking about the first.  Ordinarily this is okay.  However, there may come times when you want to clear coat parts or all of the model- say to seal decals, or to put down a gloss coat in areas before decaling (to prevent silvering).  Since clear coating is a common procedure, I recommend that you give some thought to paint compatibility.

Now, paint compatibility is a can (or bottle) of worms.  In the old days you needed to worrk about only three types of model paint- lacquers, enamels, and acrylics.  Now, each company seems to be developing their own, unique chemistry.  Only sure thing is to run tests.  Again, as long as parts are completely dry, two can be painted with different types of paint, and be touching, and they will be okay.  However, there will be so many situations (weathering, washes, clearcoats, etc) that you may want to overcoat that you should be sensitive to this problem .

Just be sure that you give the base paint plenty of time to dry and cure before applying a dissimilar layer over it. I like to wait at least overnite when painting acrylics over enamels, or vice versa.

I'm airbrushing my first model a hg build gundam mk 2 and I screwed up the white pieces pieces I was wondering can I paint most of the model in enamel and all the white pieces in acrylics? all separate pieces and to my knowledge I can use enamel clear cote on acrylic

basicaly will it hurt anything for different paint types to be touching on the same model?
