Jay

Sorry buddy that I just saw this thread. I could have saved you a trip to the LHS. Yes Testors lacquer can be used over cured acrylic as I have done this many times. As a matter of fact I just posted the same thing over on Bish's post about his peeling Alclad primer thread.

See ya at Jaxcon!

Just to give you an update ;

my LHS such as it is, didn'thave MM dull coat so I ended up trying the Testor's Dullcoat Laquer over my MM clear gloss.  IT WORKS !   I misted a couple of thin coats on and it looks great.

The Testors lacquer clearcoats are the only ones I would use over enamels or acrylics.  I am not sure why they work, but I and my modeling friends usually seem to get away with it okay, but again a test is always a good idea.

Thanks for the repiles guys.

I sprayed just one, but heavy, coat of MM gloss and it's been drying for 4 days . Due to your advice  I'm not taking the chance of ruining my almost done V-22 Osprey, so that means a trip to my  LHS for some MM dull coat, providing they have it.   It's a RC shop but they do have a lot of MM and Tamiya paints.

I have had mixed results with laquer over acrylic mostly bad with a crinkle end result - I think it depends on how well cured the base acrylic coat is and also how heavy the top lacquer is - too thick and it may soften and affect the acrylic beneath .

cerainly test first but safest might be to use a acrylic dull coat and use a couple of light coats

I think you can, but I would do a test on a piece of scrap first.

Laquer over Acrylic ?

Question;  I sprayed a rather thick gloss coat of MM acrylic for decaling etc. and now i want to dull it down. Can i use my Testor's dull coat Laquer on top of the MM acrylic gloss ?
