Poor guy's airbrush choice
Posted by kustommodeler1 on Saturday, April 9, 2016 7:26 PM

Howdy. A couple years back I found a deal on a Binks Wren 59-10003 set 1 type A airbrush for $8 USD. It has hose, body, bottles, and 3 nozzles- 59-9, 59-10, and 59-101 included. The -9, and -101 are still sealed in thier tubes, never used.Paid $8 for it at a flea market.

Today, I found a Paasche VL set, hose, cups, and bottles, with 3 needles and tips, VLT/N1, VLT/N3, and VLT/N5. Paid $5 for it.

I am ready to get busy and learn. Which is the better tool? Thanks so much!

I can't say anything about the Wren, but I can vouch for the VL. I bought mine in the early 80's and have used it ever since, mostly for commercial art illustration with acrylic colors. As with any airbrush, I've replaced needles, tips, etc. but it's been a real dependable workhorse, and all the parts are still available. Once you get the hang of airbrushing you may want to own a few specialized "guns" but for starters the VL will do everything you need.

Happy modeling!

Mike
