When you are first learning/relearning airbrushing you want to eliminate as many possible problems as possible. Buying a good quality airbrush generally will eliminate the airbrush as one of the problems. Others problems being the paint, thinner, mix ratio, air pressure, humidity, technique, etc.

I realize its your money and not mine but I'd suggest any of the brand name brushes. Iwata, Badger, Grex, Pasche, and others.

The Chinese knock offs (Harbor Freight) are to hit or miss. Some swear by them others swear at them.

If you have a Hobby Lobby you can use their 40% off coupon.

I bought the harbor freight central pneumatic compressor/siphon feed AB combo a couple years ago, the compressor works great but i had to add a regulator, the airbrush isnt so great I upgraded to an Iwata neo gravity feed and it works flawlessly and its not overly expensive.

I have a neo cn  for iwata and it is a really good airbrush. you can get it at hobby lobby with their 40% off app coupon. I tried the harbor freight but was reallt disapointed. The Iwata is about $40.00 with the discount. very good deal. Let us know what you choose.

Pinehilljoe,

I have that Paasche H. It was my first a/b.  Whilst it has a nostalgic space in my drawer now, it only now gets used for priming.

There are a few drawbacks with that brush. The main one is that it's just a PITA to clean properly. There are numerous parts etc to pull apart to clean and it's a messy job to do it.

Also, i found it's very hard (impossible for me) to do fine lines/mottling.

My recommendation is a gravity feed with a large colour cup. They are much much easier to clean, will allow finer detail and will hold enough paint for doing large surfaces.

My always go to is the trusty Badger 100LG. But you could also look at the Paasche Talon; Iwata HP-C+; Iwata HP-CR; Sparmax DH-103.

All of these have a decent sized colour cup and should suit your purposes.

The downside is they will be more expensive than the one you're looking at, but, from experience, i would tell you to spend more at the start, so you don't waste money upgrading later.

Regards.

Chris

What are kind are you looking for? Dual Action? Single Action? Gravity feed? Check out Don's Airbrush website and make your own decision that fits your budget.

There are no airbrushes specifically used for 1/48 scale uses.

You can find far cheaper airbrushes that are found on Amazon. Go to www.tcpglobal.com instead.

They have a great selection of airbrush sets to choose from. Harbor Freight airbrushes are Chinese made.

Im getting back into the hobby and am looking to purchase an airbrush.  When I was teen I had a Badger, now I'm looking at the Paasche kit on Amazon or Harbor Freights airbrush.  I'm going to be building 1/48 aircraft primarily.

Any recomendations?
