Any other methods I should know about?
Posted by Rangatron on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 4:12 PM

Hello

Aside from drybrushing, minor streaks, buff dust effects, pin washes, minor chipping, what are the other great subtle weathering methods?

Thank you

Tamiya please produce these models: TOG II*, Bob Semple Tank, Renault FT-17, Black Prince, 1/350 HMS Vanguard and more British stuff! If anyone works Tamiya or can pass this on, please do so!

There is the regular, just-plain-wash.  The pin wash is primarily for enhancing panel lines.  The regular wash is a technique to tint a surface area by putting down a thin wash over a whole area, not concentrating it in panel lines.  A related method is the dot-filter method becoming so popular.  The normal wash tints the whole area pretty much the same color, while the dot filter allows more variation in the color.

One can also produce a thin tinting with a good airbrush dialed down to put on a very thin coat.  I sometimes put down such a very thin coat of a lightened fuselage color on the top-facing surfaces of an aircraft (top of fuselage, tops of wings and empanage) to simulate chalking due to a lot of sunlight exposure.  Use thinner paint than normal and increase distance from airbrush to model surface.
