Building my first detailed cockpit

I'm working on just my second model after many years away from the hobby and it's a 1/48 Eduard F6F with PE. A couple questions: I heard that the pre-painted cockpit PE pieces are fragile. Can I spray a light coat of Acryl dull coat on the fret before I begin working with the PE? Do I need to wash the seat, floor and other pieces before I add the pre-painted PE or can a light wash go on over the pre-painted PE? Thanks.
