Air tank to Badger airbrush connection
Posted by vipe155 on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 8:13 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how I can use my Harbor Freight air tank with my airbrush.  I don't have a airbrush compressor, but do have this tank, and got the idea from searching online that I could use it for some basic airbrush work on a model.

I have a Badger 350 type airbrush, with the small diameter hose/canned air adapter, and I have this: http://www.harborfreight.com/5-gallon-portable-air-tank-65594.html

The air tank has a Schrader valve on it.  What do I need to go from that tire type connection to my airbrush?  Should I go direct to the airbrush hose, or should I go through that adapter cap lid?

Thank you

You will need an adapter to go from the tank to the badger air hose.  I don't recall off the top of my head the exact one, but you can find them on the big sites like chicagoairbrushsupply.com.

I used to have a similar setup and I can tell you that you will be very frustrated very quickly with it.  The tank will need to be filled with air from some kind of compressor and then after spraying you will soon lose the pressure, and then you will have to unscrew the adapter and then reattach the hose from the compressor to refill the tank and then undo/redo the badger hose.  I think those tanks only allow to be filled up to 100psi.  If you are going to do a lot of spraying, you will want to get a compressor/tank design.  Not to mention that tank id pretty big and you will be lugging it back and forth to the garage to fill it up again unless you bring your compressor into the hobby room to do it.

I may not have set it up correctly, but I "gave up" on that setup very fast.  Just my .02.

I agree with John.  To use that tank you would really need to add a regulator to control pressure.  By that time you would have spent almost as much as their 1/6 HP airbrush compressor that comes with a regulator and hose.  I would return the tank.  And, if your airbrush is a Chinese Badger copy, you may not be satisfied with the results you get with it.
