I am airbrushing Vallejo paints and at first I was using the Thinner Diluant (061). This is a milky white substance and when mixed with any of the Vallejo or Panzer Aces paints comes out of my airbrush great.
Seeing a larger bottle of Airbrush thinner (71.161) I start to use this. This product is a clear liquid and thinner than the 061 product. At first the paint gummed up the nozzel. I cleaned it and reloaded the paint with even more thinner. Worked for a few seconds, then gummed up again. I add so much thinner (and increased the pressure on the tank) that it came out as liquid watery paint and then gummed up.
I was wondering what the Airbrush thinner (71.161) was for. After reading a few comments on other areas, someone said that the 71.161 product is the new fromula. Do any of you guys use this in your airbrush and do you have the same problem
For me, the 061 product is best, but it comes only in 32ml bottle. I would love to get larger bottles of this stuff if they offer it. Also, would be very said if they got rid of the 061 product since it works better for me in my airbrush (Iwata HpC).

I'm relatively new to Vallejo, using only the Model Air for airbrushing. But my experience seems to mirror yours, the thinner medium works better, the 161 is just miserable for causing tip dry. I'm also trying different Liquitex products, but still don't have a very reliable paint source using Vallejo.
Too stubborn to just give up on it, but should have long ago. For those that do have good results with it, I wish I could do the same.

What ratio do you use?
71.161 just doesn't do it. I have upped the ratio to almost 40% paint 60% thinner and still get tip dry clogging. I have also upped the air pressure with no success.

I'm sorry I forgot to get back to you but I'm using thinner 71.161 and Flow Improver 71.262 with good results.
Vallejo's 71.061, 71.161 and 71.261 are the same product (Airbrush Thinner), in different bottle/container sizes.
I'm baffled as to what the Thinner diluant 061 to which you refer is, especially since you state it is milky in appearance.
I wonder if you might be referring to Vallejo Thinner Medium, which is something else entirely (basically acrylic resin without colour pigment, as I understand it).
Vallejo product numbering can be baffling, it's no wonder we're all confused.
