What's wrong with making my own by mixing a little bit of enamel with turpentine? Won't it be the same?
Nothing wrong with making your own. Just takes some trial and error to get it the way you want it. This is why I think the pre-mix filters and washes are popular. They're more convenient.

Yep, thats about it, just more conveniant. I occasionally make my own washes, but most time used the ready made ones.
I don't go for the filters though. I have tried them and don't like them.

Nothing,and there's nothing wrong with commercial filters flooding the market either.We just buy or don't buy.I like convenience.Same with all the new,dedicated modeling products,some I buy,some I dont,but the choices are great.
My bad on my earlier post here. I was thinking about pigments when I responded. Making your own filters shouldn't be a problem at all. Making pigments is harder because they need to be ground finely enough to scale properly, but, of course, you're not dealing with that when you're just talking about thinning paint colors by yourself.
