Bottle brushes
Posted by Don Stauffer on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 3:45 PM

I use a siphon feed airbrush, and use a seperate jar for each color on the kit I am building.  When the project is done, one of the chores is cleaning the paint jars.  Some of them get pretty bad, and I like to use lacquer thinner to clean them when they are really grungey. Otherwise I use paint thinner or purple power. I use a brass wire brush, but it has bristles only on one side and not the most convenient.  I remember test tube brushes from school days, and baby bottle brushes.

Going online to look for brushes to buy, I find a lot of them have nylon bristles.  Doesn't nylon soften in lacquer thinner and dissolve?  I'd hate to have to have two sets of brushes, one for lacquer thinner and one for the other thinners.  Anyone a bristle expert?  Or bottle cleaning expert?

Don, I have used golen taklon brushes from Hobby lobby in lacqer thinners,  in fact all thinners to clean my airbrush for years with no problem. They have a boxed assorted set for around $12.00 to $15.00 before the 40% coupon. I have used the same brushes without replacing for 5 years at least.

Thanks. Maybe I'll stop worrying about solvents and pick on price and size.
