I would always suggest to anyone to keep models away from any direct or even indirect sunlight, as that may prove to yellow a finish.

My two Navy planes were never in direct sunlight. There was a thread a while back about the yellowing issue. I have tried to locate it with negative results but still looking. I recall stikpusher experiencing some yellowing some time after using the lacquer. Come to think about it, it was only visible on the white painted areas and can't recall if it was visible on the darker grey areas. I sold the planes a while back so no way to check that now.

Yeah, sunlight is kinda funny.  It can add a color to white, but bleaches out some color from any other color :-)  Just like the clearcoats, though, hobby paint mfgs have come a long ways on stabilizing their whites, but sun bleaching on other colors is still a problem.

Don, I've seen the semi-matt laquer for some time now. I believe it has the blue rings on the label, as opposed to green-flat and red-gloss.

I've never had MM laquer go yellow on me. I have the large 125th Heller A380 there is a lot of white on that plane, if any model were going to show yellowing this would be the one. It was sealed with MM gloss  laquer.  Still very white after about 8 years.

I would always suggest to anyone to keep models away from any direct or even indirect sunlight, as that may prove to yellow a finish.

Good to know then. I had a couple of Navy planes get that yellow look specially on the white areas a while back. I also have a bottle of Floquil clear gloss that looks like a light honey color. Too bad it went bad.

I hope Testors rectified their formula cause their clear gloss and flat lacquers would turn yellow over time.

I believe they did.  I have not had a Testors clearcoat go yellow in maybe the last twenty years.

Good news indeed Don. Thanks.

New Testors clear coat!
Posted by Don Stauffer on Saturday, September 10, 2016 9:31 AM

Was in my LHS yesterday buying some paint.  I found new cans of Testors lacquer clearcoats- three varieties.  One is a semi-matt!  I have been wanting this for years.  Bought a can- have not tried it out yet.

Was glad to find lacquers.  Michaels now only has Testors in the enamel glosscoat and dullcoat.  I do not like the enamel ones, and was worried they were going to only offer those.  Glad to see new products in the lacquers, as well as new labels on the glosscoat and dullcoat.
