CreateFX stains and washes. Anyone try 'em yet?
Posted by echolmberg on Monday, September 12, 2016 11:07 AM

Hi guys!  I was at Michael's the other day and saw they carry this line of enamel stains and acrylic washes called "CreateFX".  I had never heard of it before.  Has anyone used them?  How are they?  And what differentiates a stain from a wash?

They've always been in Hobby Lobby for quite some time now. My local HL had them in stock for a couple years or so now. Never used them myself. Although I had been tempted to pick up a bottle or two myself.

They were discontinued at the lobby, you may find some still on the clearance wall. I bought a couple of styles. The enamel stains I like, but the black acrylic wash not so much; it didn't have enough color.

I was doing a bit more research after my initial post yesterday.  It seems like Testors, from what I found, sort of used their "stains" and "wash" terms interchangeably.  Either way, one is enamel and the other is acrylic.  Since I work with enamel paints, I might pick up some of the Testors acrylic wash.  I'm not sure if my local Hobby Lobby carries them but I know the Michael's down the street does.

Mississippi, thanks for the heads-up about the black wash!
