Field workshop- Oxy/acetylene bottles- different colours ?
Posted by Wirraway on Thursday, September 15, 2016 4:39 AM

I've never been a welder, but I assume one colour for the Oxygen bottle and a different colour for the acetylene ?  So they can be identified ? Instructions call for both bottles to be black but it just doesnt look right.

This is what I found online:

However, my fathers medical oxygen was in a green bottle. And I believe the international standard for Oxygen is white.

Hope this helps a little.

They can be the same color, but that isn't too interesting in a diorama. Generally, the acetylene bottle is shorter and fatter.

It may also depend on the time period and the country.

The image above is present-day and under current European standards, it's the colour of the shoulder that's relevant, not the overall colour of the cylinder.
