Question about Exhaust nozzle painting
Posted by Murphy's Law on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 9:40 AM

will be painting a F-16 exhaust nozzle using Alclad lacquer. My question is should I apply gloss clear over the top? or Dullcote? or just leave as is with no clear? which will look most realistic? Thanks

Dull finish will be more realistic, for sure.

Another option you could try would be to use a flat primer/base coat under the Alclad, thus is will not be as shiny. As awlays, I'd test first on a scrap of plastic. Sometimes, depending on the final clear coat, it could change the look of the Alclad and make it look "plasticy", if thats a word.

There is a metallizer paint  from Model Master, in the color of burnt iron.  I have used this and it looks fine.

Normally on the chrome, shiny Aluminum  types of Alclad no clear is needed or for the best shine, wanted. However the other "duller" versions can benefit from a coating that “helps tell the story better".   Also pin washes will add to the effects.
