I bought a Airfix model airplane and it came with plastic bottles of humbrol paint. I can't determine if its oil or water based. I don't have turpenine to clean brushes if its oil based. does anyone know what they are shipping in the bottles, i can't find information on the box or didn't see it.
EDIT:
NEVER MIND: It was under the price tag. I pulled it off and found it. They are acrylic.
Chasing the ultimate build.
Last one of these kits I got my hands on had acrylic paint in small clear flip lid tubs, thinned with water & was of exceptional poor quality.....

stikpusherThe paint or the kit?
The current generation Airfix "starter kit" aircraft range has some very nicely moulded kits.
OTOH, Humbrol's acrylic paints are pretty mediocre...
Yes, that is what I was looking for clarificaTion on. Airfix's new mold kits in pretty much every scale are very nice. Real value for the price and with engineering and detail to really make you happy OOB. On the other hand, I have heard that Humbrol's acrylic paints are not up to the quality of their enamels.
Most likely acrylic. There's no way they would pack Humbrol enamels with the kits. Like stik says, their acrylics aren't all that great.
Thanks everyone. I like humbrol oils the acrylic is of medium quality. A couple drops of denatured alcohol did the trick for the acrylics. The kit's engineered well enough but the plastic a bit poor. Is it polystyrene with some kind of filler? I'm building a cockpit for it. Well improvising might be a better word. It has a lot of tamiya putty in it already and its giving fits. My exacto saw blade tears rather than cuts and I have holes, raised detail is damaged to. I've built other kits that were of higher difficulty and had an easier time building. I've scribed detail in place of raised detail and haven't been "caught".
