What has gone wrong with Testors enamel?

Floquil was one heck of a paint and the line was dropped. Their Old Silver and Engine Black was specially great colors to use.

I have some Testors small bottles that are almost 30 years old and are still good yet I have purchased newer ones that have gone bad within a year. Looks like quality control has gone down.

Testors is now owned by rust oleum. They are changing everything. I really don't know why they purchaed them only to take them apart the way they are.

If I were a foreign manufacturer trying to meet US labeling requirements, I'd likely just stop exporting to the US.

I am an enamel fan, and I find Humbrol hard to find, whereas Testors is easy to find- even Michaels and Hobby Lobby have it.  All the hobby shops in my area have big selections of the square bottles and the MM line.  I don't blame Testors for the government safety regs.

My only gripes with Testors has been the slow drying time of the gloss colors (I built a heated drying box to overcome that) and the changes in chemistry to the cans, especially the switches  from enamel to lacquer and back and forth for the clearcoats.  I have been able to get the lacquer clearcoats again, so am happy again.

Cost saving too.

Before they had the name of the color and the number on both front and back. So 100% of the labels were unique to the color. Now they have 3 same warning labels shared by all bottles and one unique label per color.

Testors is just a tiny part of RPM International Inc., makers of Rustoleum, DAP, and a bunch of other brands.  They probably have a corporate policy on labeling to avoid lawsuits and problems with regulatory agencys.  That gets tricky on such a small bottle.  I'm surprised they don't add a skull and crossbones so people won't drink it.

Got a flat set with tools and this white to get me started. 

I used to use Tamiya enamels back 20 years ago. The closest model shop is about 30-35 min drive away.   Micheals who sells Testors is just around the corner. Paid $18 for a dozen of paint and small tools, so it's alright  

I still haven't decided if I wanna go with enamel or acrylic. Though I bought a couple bottles of Modelmaster enamel for this bike I am about to build for my buddy. 

OK, we don't need Testors.  There are plenty other good (and better) brands on the market.  Let your wallet speak, and buy something else!

It's more like what is wrong with Testors... part of it is nanny state regulations... we must be told about all bad things in a product. Part of it is the company. Testors seems to be gearing their products less and less toward us modelers. They have expanded their square bottle line with all sorts of crayola crayon type names, but cut back on their military colors in their Model Master lines of enamels and acrylics...
