Thinning Model Master enamel clear

There are some variables, pressure, airbrush needle size, ambient temp and number of coats desired. But an initial ratio as you stated, (1:2) sounds right in the ball park.

For me, a pressure of 15-18 psi is usual, thinning anywhere from thinner to paint ratio of 1:3, to as much as 1:1 and medium needle size. I keep my hobby bench spray booth area at 70 degrees.

Really, (I think,) for me the only practical means of determining reduction ratio is to use good light, sample sprays and seeing what is working or what isn't. That's been my method for many years, regardless of type or brand.

I'd be interested in knowing what your test results may develope for a method, if you're inclined to share.

I tried clear to thinner ratio, 4:3 the first coat, then 1:1 next coat. 

First I thought it actually took away the shine and gave some orange peel.  Then I realized I am not triggering hard enough for the Clear to get out.  Didn't notice too much difference between the two mixtures. 

This is the first time using the proper air brush, so still learning.  I tend to be shy with the trigger.  Afraid of over spraying. 

The result  4 total coat of clear.  Not sure if I want to sand and buff.  Looks pretty glossy. 

I recently painted a Blue Angels Hornet and shot multiple coats of MM clear enamel thinned 50/50 with Testors enamel thinner (in the red can).

I let it cure for about 5 days then used automotive liquid swirl and haze remover to polish the paint to a high smooth glassy look.
