If you already have a coat of Future over it, that is probably all you need.

For Aclad finishes, I generally do not bother to apply any seal or clear coat. I find Alclad very stable, and decals really adhere to it well.  If any painted surfaces do not contain decals, I let it go without clearcoat.  I do not like the effect that clearcoats have on the shinier colors of Alclad.

I was hoping I could use Future and oils. I'm assuming I can use water on a cotton swab to brush back the overflow from the panel lines application?

Not sure which overflow you mean? If you mean the Future, no, it will more or less self-level and your panel lines will be fine for the subsequent oil wash.

If you mean cleaning up the wash itself from where you don't want it, you'd want to use whatever you used to thin the wash with.

If I'm missing the point of your question, do tell. I do that sometimes.

PS, I'm no wash expert, but your post went 24 hrs with no help so I thought I'd give it a go.

Greg

I think it depends on which type of wash you intend to use.

Thanks for the feedback Greg. I believe I'll now go with F F F.. Future, as I wish to use oils mixed with terp so I can use black for the panel lines.

I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm going to shoot the Future today and do the panel line wash tomorrow.

Thanks again... I was hoping I could use Future and oils. I'm assuming I can use water on a cotton swab to brush back the overflow from the panel lines application?

I think it depends on which type of wash you intend to use.

You mentioned both an oil wash (in which case you would want to clear coat in acrylic (Like F-F-F-Future* or Alclad Aqua Klear) first) and Flory wash (which is water based and in that case you'd want to clear coat in something not water based (Alclad Clear, Testors Clear, etc).

Does this help?

*sorta like Fonzy trying to say "wrong", you know.

Clear Coat on Mixed Surface for panel wash

I'm finally getting to finishing my P51. It has a mixed acrylic and Alclad aluminum finish. I have airbrushed a coat of Future on it and finished up the decaling.

What would be the best clear coat to put on top of the mixed Alclad and acrylic that would accept a wash for panel lines and then another to seal the deal?

I have Future, MM Acryl flat and clear and Future.

I have some oil paints that I can mix with turp for the wash. This would get me the best coloring as I have both brown and black to mix. I have a brown Flory wash (water based) and a Tamiya chalk kit I have never used. Suggesttions welcomed.

Long past the Mustang Group build but I'm closing in on the finish line. Might slip and pic at the end of the thread if that is acceptable.

Thanks for any help here.
