I answered this in the aircraft forum, but further thoughts.  Look at how great Alclad is.  That problem was similar to yours.  We finally got the solution to that problem.  Maybe someone will soon develop affordable paints like that for hobby use eventually.

I don't know about other types of paint, but with Humbrols mixing in some silver will definitely work - I have personally done this. You need to determine the amounts experimentally, though. Good luck with your build and have a nice day

Like Don, I replied in the other thread.  The pearls are available in a rainbow of colors including gold, silver, blue, green, red, among many others.  Depending on amount used and lighting can give a "sheen" depending on lighting and viewing angle.  Ghost flames on a car are an example.
