Mig Jimenez Alclad II Paint
Posted by damouav on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 9:08 PM

Mig licensed Alclad II paint and I was interested if anybody had used the product?

OM Alclad II in part of the world is about $13USD per 30ml bottle, where as I can buy the Mig variant for about $6.50USD.

So if anbody has used the product I would be very intertestd to hear your comments and feedback.

Many thanks in advanced

Damian

I have Alclad paints but yet have tried them. I have heard many good things about Alclad metalics. I can find Alclad going around $7 a bottle at a LHS in Webster, NY. I live a couple hours from there.

Keep in mind that Alclad paints are pre-thinned, and work best with a single very thin coat, so the fact that the bottles cost more than most paints, you get a lot of coverage per model.  I find I can do typically three to five models, depending on size, with a single bottle.

Asi understand it, the MiG stuff is exactly the same. Its still made by Alclad only distrubuted by MiG with their name on the bottle.

Alclad paints are very good and produce a very realistic metal finish. As to application, best to go to their site for a complete rundown on the process. I have used Alclad multiple times and I'm very happy with the reults.

Recently I tried AK Extreme Metal which doesn't require priming as Alclad and got very good results.

So nobody has actually tried the Mig branded product?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I shot Alclad an email asking if MIG bought them out or if they merged and as usual they answer back within a few minutes. They have great customer support.

This is the response I got from them:

"No - Alclad in England did a limited period trial covering a few colours which MIG offered for sale to their armour modeller customers."

So Alclad remains the same.

I didn't think they had been bought out. I buy direct from their site, they are based not that far from me. And there is no mention of it at all on there.

I have had the same great customersupport. On one occasion they sent me the wrong colour. They tyen sent me the coirrect one and told me to keep the other. On another they sent me two items when i ordered one and they told me to keep it.

@ plasticjunkie -Thank you for contacting the OM to request this information. My reasearch was of a similar find, but my findings where that Alclad had licensed the manufacture of the product and not supplied it.

Irrespective of the manufacturer, the product is still highly regarded from the exhaustive research I have undertaken.

Thanks again to all those who spent the time to respond.

I placed an order for certain veriants of the Mig product. I will soon find out if it is any good, if so I saved %50 off the local RRP (including shipping).
