Master Airbrush

I startded with a Master Airbrush a couple of years ago when I first got back into the hobby. I had never used an airbrush before and didnt want to spend a lot of money on something right out of the gate. As a 'beginner' brush, its okay... Dont expect much from it, especially if you buy a combo-kit with the tiny compressor. Air regulation is minimal, and there is no guage. If you have used any quality airbrush prior, using a Master is like going back to kindergarten.

I still have my Master, and I will typically use it to spray stuff like Mr. Hobby Surfacer 1200 or other filler type primers. I dont use it for anything else.

I have seen ads from a vender for Master airbrushes.  The prices are very low, which makes me hesitant to try them.  Airbrushes are precision instruments, and a very low price makes me question performance and reliability.  Has anyone tried one of these?

Also, I have seen ads for an airbrush used for cosmetics.  You get an airbrush, a compressor, and even face-color-tint paints, for about twenty bucks!  Anyone tried one of these?

 

I am new to airbrushes but I have the Master G-23 and after getting used to keeping it clean and using bees wax to replace worn o rings, I love it. It doesnt like acrylics as all of my AB problems were while using acrylics.I have been messing up paint jobs all of my life and I find it hard to do a bad paint job with  this AB when its clean and lubed. Just my opinion as I have never used a high dollar airbrush. I have used a compressor from a make up set and it was under powered and cuts itself off after a few minutes.And you get air pulses to your brush. I am a cheap person and did'nt want to buy a different compressor but had to cough up money for a better compressor.

Don't know what they are now Don ,but I did get 3 and a Master compressor when I started out for like a hundred bucks or something. The E91 is a single action siphon fed brush and with some tweaking I still use it for priming large surface ( .25 needle?), the S68 is a double action siphon feed but is a real piece of crap and no amount of tweaking ever got it to work properly as the air feed is placed too close to the rim and leaks,any sealent blocks the air ,.35 needle, and the G22 double action gravity feed, after some tweaks, is perfect for me,I have replaced the needle and nozzle with a .3 and use it for very small details. Hope this helps. Still have the compressor.

I would not call the Master airbrushes precision instruments.  They are made in China by one of several manufacturers that will put anybody's name on an airbrush if they buy enough.  The same ones are sold under a variety of brands.  If you are lucky, you will get one that will work pretty well.  But, feedback I have seen on the web, says that a lot of people end up tossing them.

Chinese companies are certainly capable of producing fine airbrushes.  But, it seems profits are better cranking out lots of marginal stuff.

I will say this; if you want to try a Chinese airbrush, buy it from a dealer who will back it up.  I believe TCP Global will and I know Harbor Freight does for 90 days or 5 years if you purchase an extended warranty.  Both will also sell you spare parts, which is something to consider.

Don - One of the neighbor kids I got started with model building was given a Master Airbrush set, I think it included 3 of them. One worked reasonably well, the other 2 were not worth bringing home. Poor parts quality and sloppy machining of parts. From what I hear it's a real crap shoot as to what you get, very inconsistent from one to another.

Some guys relate good luck with them, others swear at them. The cosmetic ones look quite similar to the Master.

My first airbrush/compressor was designed for decorating cakes!  Worked fine until the compressor died after many years.

Haven't seen the Master ad, but did see the cosmetic ones awhile back.  Kind of figured the HF was branching out at that price point.
