Embarassing AB question to ask
Posted by acctingman on Saturday, July 8, 2017 8:39 PM

Just bought a Central Pneumatic Compressor at harbor Freight and a Iwata Neo TRN1 AB

Did I miss an item or two? Like a quick connect tool because I just do not see how to connect the two. Yes, I'm that "green"

It's looking like I need a quick connect from the hose to the compressor? Can I get those at lowes?

Thanks

I am not real sure what comes in your harbor freight compressor, howsumever HF sells an airbrush hose that will fit both your compressor and your iwata. Bob Gregory Ruining one kit at a time

Everybody goes through this.

Take the hose with the fitting, the compressor and the A/B to a good plumbing supply house. The over-the-counter guys will spend an hour helping you buy a $ 4.00 part. It's fun for them.

I bought a hose from HF but it doesn't seem to attach to the compressor (AB, no problem).

I'll just stroll into Lowes tomorrow morning and see what I can find.

I took mine into a NAPA auto parts store. They hooked me up with the right fitting quick.

I use a T fitting on my compressor.  No disconnects needed. On each leg of the T is the adapter for quarter inch to airbrush hose. I keep two brushes online.  As long as you don't press the airflow button on each airbrush you will not waste air.  However, since I have more connections total, and a wimply little compressor that barely handles one brush, I found it helpful to use teflon tape on all pipe fittings.

Went to Lowes and the guy there was clueless as to what I needed (so was I of course) and the went to an O'Riley's autoparts and walked out in a couple minutes with what I needed.

Thanks

Basically what you need to do is get the proper fittings to match your compressor outlet to the airbrush hose.  The hardware or auto parts store should have what you need.  I was able to source a metric to inch fitting when I needed one.  The hose probably has a standard 1/4" female threaded end, so the fitting you need has to have a 1/4" male thread on one end and whatever the compressor has on the other.  By mixing and matching fittings you can get what you need.  HTH

Don't worry about asking.  Like someone said, this is a common question.  Is the fitting NPT, BSP, 1/8", 1/4", etc.  I got lucky.  My compressor came with 1/4" NPT fitting that my Passche hose fits.  When I bought my Badger AB, had to get a $4 adapter to fit the Paasche hose, but by then knew what I was looking for.  Got quick connects for both of my ABs to the Passche hose, and now am a very happy camper.  Makes cleaning after spraying much easier.

Long winded way of saying don't be embarassed.  Big Smile

Glad you got squared away.

Yep, super convenient!  My compressor is parked out in the patio, so it allows me to bring in the AB and hose.
