Montex Masks

Does anybody know of a good way to transfer the entire mask to the model in one step?  Transferring piece by piece is an exercise in futility.

With some of the masking kits from Orbital Drydock and HDA Modelworx, entire sections of masks are transferred from the sheet to the model with "transfer tape" - it's essentially a piece of clear low tack tape the size of a standard sheet of paper.

The process has you cut out a section of the mask, which is then "weeded", meaning the undesired bits and pieces are pulled away and discarded. A similarly sized piece of transfer tape is burnished over the mask, allowing for it to be lifted in one piece, then the mask is positioned. Once satisfied that everything is good to go, the mask is burnished into place (Orbital provides a squeegee tool for this) and the tape is carefully rolled back over itself, leaving your mask ready to spray.

The system takes a little practice to get used to, but once you figure out things, it makes big masking jobs go fairly quickly.

Are these as good or better than Eduard type masks in you opinion?

Tried using masking tape to transfer as a unit, but the tape wasn't sticky enough to lift all the pieces.

Never tried Eduard masks.  Montex is OK, a little tedious, but it's the first time I've done anything like this.

You need to use low tack Application Tape, go to your local sign writters and ask for a couple of feet of it. If your well versed in vinyl application you could use Scotch Magic Tape, but I would strongly advise you to get the App Tape as the Scotch Tape may be difficult to use.

I create my own masks, and have a few meters of app tape for this very reason.
