don sorry i whent to the lhs and they didnt have any black crome. its listed under testors trim paint the shop owner siad hes never heard of that.

No problem- other friends of mine have picked up some for me when they found it.  And, if this new semi-gloss black works, that may be a good replacement for black chrome.

I needed some gunmetal color in a hurry, so dropped by my local HL.  Saw they also had semi-gloss black, so picked up a bottle of both.  Haven't tried the semi black yet.

Hi don i just seen a few dusty bottles of that chrome black at LHS i also got there last  bottles of rlm25 they stoped makeing wich is the bright green like on the prop hub of fw-190 yellow 10.  I have a bunch of  FW-190s in the stash

Unfortunately, Black Chrome is a popular item around here, and my fellow modelers stripped my LHS shelves of it. One friend who bought several bottles has offered me one of his, but I'll have to stretch that out, unless a new supply appears on the shelves.

I forgot the best simple way to achieve satin is to use 2 type of the same paint 50%semi gloss mixed with 50%flat =satin the smaller the scale I use more flat shinny surfaces at scale look to shinny.

Unless shinny is what want.

Good luck and hope that helps

The semi gloss black in the MM line has not always been around. It is from one of the more recent revamps. And it gives a different finish than a satin finish. Semi Gloss has more reflectivity than Satin.

Hmm... maybe I'm thinking of the small bottles of Testors semi gloss black, not the MM bottles.

Testores claims all there enamel are mixable. Try  small bit of dullcoat with s little paint to dull it down. Don't mix a bunch unless it works.

There acrylic has a flat clear you can mix with there acrylic paint. I know that works I use it.

Even if the paint was discontinued today, there would still be some out there for quite sometime, depending upon demand, until remaining stock is all used up. And a color like Black Chrome will likely not get used up as rapidly as say Flat Black.

Testors made a great semi black called Black Chrome.  But they seem to have discontinued it. I was reading, however, that they are coming out with a semi-gloss black.  Wonder if that will appear in their acrylic line- it had been advertised as coming out in the MM enamels, which I guess are going to disappear :-(

I don't know if black chrome enamel is discontinued but I just bought some from Scale Hobbiest last week.

Hi Don,

According to the testors website, Black Chrome is still listed under their Auto enamel brand. Also, their Black Semi-gloss is listed under their auto enamels (which haven't been discontinued).

Their acrylic line also currently has semi-gloss black.

Just curious where you were reading about them releasing the semi-gloss black?

I use both brands regularly and much prefer Humbrol. They make a satin clear coat that you could use to airbrush on over your Moddl Master base coat to get the finish you desire. Humbrol thins with Model Master Universal Enamel Airbrush Thinner with no problems. That's what I've used for years.

Thank you, I think I will try the Humbrol.

I cant seem to find Testors or MM enamel satin red, black and white. Can I add something to Testors or MM flat or gloss to make it satin? Humbrol has the 3 colors in satin I need but I'm hesitant to change as I am used to Testors and MM. Who has used Testors/MM and Humbrol and how do you like them?
