When working with Model Master acrylics, I use Testors Universal Acrylic Thinner for airbrushing. It's the green bottle by Testors.
Well Tamiya airbrushes superbly. Their biggest drawbacks are color selection and handbrushing. But the new retarder of theirs helps alleviate the latter issue.
But you can mix up your own blends of most colors using their paints. Just make sure that you mix up enough the first time! Mixing two batches exactly the same is a real challenge.

Yes that's true ..oddly ..in Prince George bc..the hobby store here only Carry tamiya and Vallejo...and little if any modelmaster paints ..that I have to go to the big city's. To get ..dont have the time to order online 800 klm to vancouver..i just stick to the old time tested tamyia. On the side note ...that tamiya paint retarder is the cats meow..tommaro ill mix up fx23-4pts to 1pts fx-50 few drops of tamiya paint retarder..and start the marbeling on trumpeters bf 109 g2 trop .

Yes, that is the downside of Acrylics. Each brand pretty much needs its own thinner, unlike enamels. Or many work decent with lacquer thinner...
Yes test but I predict failure.
A little wandering around on other threads suggests that Testors Acryl and water react badly. Tamiya X20 is about 50% water.
IMO the only sure fire way is to use same manufacturer thinners.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Bummer... but good to know. Probably just good to keep a cup of Testors Acrylic thinner and a swab in arms reach when you're airbrushing with their paint to combat the tip dry.
Should have known that thay wouldn't Mix but ...thought I'd ask anyways..thanks for replying stik
Just tryed it out and ....no go ..it clumped up like dough ..well back to mixing room ..lol
Yeah, try mixing in a little cup before you even think about putting it in your airbrush...
like the little condiment cups from restaurants... perfect to experiment in.
Yeah ill try it out on some sheet plastic..just did the bf109 g2 in black primer ..( black baseing ) ..tip drying is a problem here thought the Tammy whould help ..if not im back at mixing Rlm 78 up with tamiya paints ..
Thanks stikpusher
Why not try a test? on a safe surface of course. But MM Acrylics really don't need a retarder in my experience.
Hello everyone
