Humbrol clear questions
Posted by TomcatModelKits on Thursday, October 12, 2017 11:46 PM

Tamiya X-22 enamel gloss takes millions of years to dry  so I want to switch to an acrylic varnish.  Humbrol clear seems like a good choice but ai have a few questions:

1. I've heard that it crazes easily, how does one prevent this?

2. I've also heard that it contains ammonia, does it tend to strip off or smudge acrylics? (Specifically Tamiya, Gunze and Vallejo  model colour

3. Does it need to be thinned in order to brush paint it or can it be applied straight from the bottle

Thank you to those who reply!

I haven’t used Humbrol acrylics, but I’ve been using their enamels for a long time. Their Enamel Satin and Matt clears are my go to for those finishes.

I only airbrush the stuff, and thin them with Testors airbrush thinner for airbrushing.

If you want an acrylic clear gloss that dries fairly quickly, I highly suggest that you try Future. It can be hand brushed or airbrushed with no thinning. And I have yet to have it react badly with any type of paint that has had time to dry and cure.

Humm, you will strugle.

You may want to buy from Amazon, have the item sent to a freight forwarded to you East Asian location. Amazon doesn't freight liquids like this out side the US, I attempted it and gave up.

I found that the Alclad Aqua Gloss acrylic did not work well for me when AB, but worked well when brushed. This could be another alternative.
