pin wash questions
Posted by LDF on Sunday, October 22, 2017 9:38 PM

I'm thinking of trying a pin wash for the first time, and I had a couple of questions. I've finished applying Tamiya acrylic as tha base coat, and I'm about to apply a gloss coat of Future before applying the decals/ oil based pin wash.

 - Should I apply the decals first, and then do the pin wash, or vice-versa?

 - I think I understand how the pin wash works with recessed panel lines, but this model (a Tamiya A-10) seems to have a lot of raised panel lines. If I can get the wash to flow into the "corner" between the raised panel line and the surface, is there some technique I should use that will leave it there when I try to clean up the surface with a q-tip moistened with thinner? I haven't tried it yet but it seems to me the q-tip would remove most of the wash that had flowed into the corner.

Apply the decals first then the pin wash. If doing an oil wash i seal the decals first. I have hadthem ruined by the wash, but might depend on what thinner you use.

As long as you do it gently enough, you should be ok, if it does remove any you can always touch up in just the area you want.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
