I'm no expert, but will see if this helps. If it sprays full blast when pressing down on the trigger, without trigger pull back, I'm wondering if the needle is stuck in the bearing in a pulled back position. Try pulling the needle out and cleaning it, then with the needle wet with lacquer thinner, make repeated passes sliding the needle back and forth.

If the previous owner only did cleaning by spray rinses, it may just be a bit of dried paint clogging the needle/bearing fit.

Be sure to hold the AB in an inverted position, to avoid getting liquid into the air valve which can ruin the valve O-ring. Let us know how you get on with it.

Somehow, the needle is not blocking the nozzle.  That could be because it's not pushed forward enough, or there could be junk inside the nozzle.  Since it's used, the junk would be my guess.  So, first check the nozzle.  Hold it up to a light and look in the large end with a magnifier.  You should see shiny metal inside.  If that's OK, check needle action.  Make sure it pops back forward after you pull it back.  Try re-setting the needle. The nozzle is fragile, so don't force it.  If the needle has been reworked, it might not be round anymore, and that could affect the seal.

Hi, Gentleman, You nailed the problem, dirty, damaged needle. Lucky for me there was a spare,dirty but seeming undamaged. Some time with some fine scotch-bright and Bingo! Now all I have to do is learn how to use it well. Thanks again. Aardvark
