Don Stauffer plasticjunkie I have used the AK polished aluminum and goes down easier than Alclad not requiring a primer and to me looks as good as Alclad. Haven't tried the Vallejo metallics. You mean the AK stuff does not need to go over a gloss black undercoat?

I shot it without a gloss black coat and to me it looked the same as the Alclad with gloss black undercoat.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!

Flory models did a great review of the AK Xtreme Metal paint on YT. He did a coat with and without the AK Microfiller black primer and it would seem that using their black primer does make a tad of difference as to it's luster. My next plane is a Tamiya P-51 and I've already purchased both the primer on the AK metal paints and looking forward to see how it all comes out.

Thanks very much for the replies.
They pretty much tell me what I was wanting to know. I will continue to get some more Vallejo metal colours.
Have not used the AK stuff yet, but did use the Vallejo. I am a big Alclad fan, but figure I will need to switch someday because of concern for VOCs. I found it very similar to Alclad Not quite as shiny as the Alclad Polished Aluminum, but close. When the sad day comes, I will be ready.

Has anyone used both of the metal paints mentioned? At the moment I am only looking at then for jet exhausts and aluminium where paint has worn down or been chipped on aircraft.
I have seen reviews of each on Youtube, and seen them compared to Alclad II, but I haven't seen them compared to each other. From what I have seen the painting process looks the same for each, but are the results?
