Yeah, looking at that video, to my eye, most of that appears to be aluminum lacquer, and not the original Alclad stuff.

Compare the reflectivity of the metal in the video to here

I think the finish on that red tail P-51 is a silver grey paint used to protect the aluminum. This looks like the same paint on their "Fifi"-----

Oxidized aluminum looks different---

Here’s a good example of silver; coming from a restored P-51 Mustang of the famous Tuskegee Redtails. As you can see it’s restored in silver, nor the shiny silver:

It looks as if almost has a tint of grey in it.

Does this stuff have a finer pigment grain than their bottle paint metallics? I like the sound of a nice dull finish for combat NMF aircraft.

I believe it's lacquer based (so the particles are "meleted" to render a smoother finish), and it AB's very well IMPO. Even though it comes out of the can pretty thin, I always thinned it down further and had not encountered any issues.

Going to try using AK Extreme metalics on a future P-47 build as I have had great results with this as well.

I have always used laquer thinners with Tamiya acrylics and not thought it to have a grainy finish.

In Progress
1/48 Tamiya P47-D Bubbletop
1/48 Hobby Boss TBF-1C Avenger (on hold)
Pending
1/48 Roden S.E.5a
1/48 Airfix Walrus

Just discovered a rattle can Tamiya paint called Bare Metal Silver. This is new to me. Has a P-51 on the can.

Anyone used it? How does it compare with their other silvers? Is it like Alclad? Do you like it?

I've used it and no, it's not a new silver color. I've used it on my Tamiya 1/48 scale P-47 "Bubbletop" Thunderbolt. No, it's not shiny like Alclad. The reason I chose this particular silver is I liked the look of WW2 silver finish during combat. I find the shiny look on WW2 aircraft unrealistic especially during wartime. Unless you're looking to do one as as a restored look.

+1

I bought a can over 10 years ago, only used it recently. Decanted some into a container so I could use in my Airbrush, works very well.

Those AS colors are strictly rattlecan ? Or do they come other ways.

This is part of their "aircraft" series paints.  I have used it, and found it to be excellent stuff.  It results in a nice, uniform semi-gloss finish.  You can use it on bare plastic, or a primed surface.

Bare metal silver is AS-12. I've had a can for some time but haven't used it.
