MM clear gloss lacquer over Alclad?

I also use the spoons.  Inexpensive, but work great.

I keep a small supply of sheet styrene on hand for testing things that I'm in doubt of.

I think I'm going to have to invest in a box of white plastic spoons that some people use to practice.  I've run out of old busted up models since they're so thickly covered with practice paint jobs!  LOL!

Testors overcoats are fine over decals.  Many folks use them to seal decals (I do over painted finishes).  You might try a test- do a bit of alclad on a piece of scrap plastic, and then put the clearcoat over it. If the change in sheen does not bother you, use it on the model.

Thanks Don!  I was most concerned with several things (in no particular order):  Would it ruin the decals?  Would it eat the Alclad?  Would it adversely alter the "NMF" look of the Alclad?  I've heard that the MM clear gloss lacquer can be on the "hot" side and I didn't want to bugger anything up.

As you had mentioned, the decals adhere wonderfully to the Alclad and I know it's also as tough as nails so that it doesn't really need a protective top coat.  I just figured I'd seal it up just to give it that extra added layer of protection.  I want to send the model to my uncle who flew them when he was a pilot in the Bolivian Air Force.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding the CA accelerator!  That bit of info is going directly into my mental files.

I have done it without any compatibility problems.  However, it seemed to alter the sheen, and I did not like the results.  I find decals adhere so well to Alclad that I don't need to seal them.  As far as weathering, Aclad is pretty stable and tough, so I just weather over the stuff.

The one thing that DOES kill Alclad is CA accelerator!  I had a little part fall off a model I had already done the Aclad on.  After gluing the part back on, I put a daub of accelerator on it to speed the cure.  Bad idea! It left a gray stain there.  After that, if I had to do any gluing over or near Alclad, I let it cure naturally.
