I love Testors (lacquer) Glosscoat. It is quite resistant to environment.  It had a reputation, long ago, of turning yellow with age, but they fixed that decades ago.

Thanks, that's good to know.

Duplicolor has a lacquer based clear found at Auto parts stores.  It is very tough, dries fast and is not too expensive.  You will want to test with your acrylic paints to make sure it does not react with them.

Good ole testors gloss coat is also tough.  It too is lacquer based so test first.

Lacquers go on thin but dry tough.  Do 3-4 mist coats and see the results after an hour.  If you want you can then do one or two medium coats.

Thanks!

How do I know? I've had a couple kits ruined using Krylon products. Not laying down correctly (Yes, I've sprayed in several light coats), orange peel, etc... They changed something in their products.

But hey, if you prefer Krylon products, knock yourself out. My go to primer and clearcoat is Rustoleum. Each to his own I guess.

I read the reviews on their website and it looks like quite a few others have the same experience. I'd like to know what other alternatives there are out there. I've been using rustoleum primers but never tried their clear coat. How are they?

It would depend on what type of clear gloss.  Is it acrylic, enamel, lacquer, urathane?

For hardness, lacquer and urathane are very tough then enamel and last acrylic.

When spraying clears if you are using acrylic paints and clear with a lacquer or urathane you will want to do very light coats.  If you put on a heavy coat, the clear may react with the acylic paint and could cause issues.  You would want to do a test first to be sure.  Enamel will not react with acylics.

Krylon Clear Gloss?

I"m looking for a durable gloss coat that won't get affected by daily use. I'm making a 3D printed project for my kids and I'm intending on using my acrylic paints to add color but woun't need to finish it off with something hard and durable. Would Krylon gloss clear work?
