I would imagine that if you do a couple light coats of the lacquer, allowing them to dry to the touch (just a few minutes), before going a bit heavier, to get a good gloss...there shouldn't be a problem laying the lacquer over acrylics (I use enamels, with gloss lacquer). Don't quote me on that though! I have zero experience with acrylics.

Once the lacquer is cured, you shouldn't have an issue using acrylic washes.

Personally, after my enamel paints...I use Minwax clear gloss lacquer (you can get a whole quart for what a couple ounces costs for "special" hobby lacquers), thinned with generic lacquer thinner(50/50). For washes, I use cheap craft paint, water and a couple drops of dish soap. I brush some on, rub it in good with a finger, then use a damp, soft cloth (old t-shirt) to wipe away the excess.

I have sprayed Testors dullcote and glosscote lacquer over Tamiya acrylics with no problem.Key is to have acrylics well cured.Tamiya acrylics are tough paints.I also feel that your tamiya lacquer would hold up to acrylic washes but probably not an enamel or oil wash.

lacquer clear question

ok, normally I use Tamiya acrylics followed by a clear of future (acrylic) before I do a wash. Usually the wash is enamil and that cleans up very nice with enamel thinner or lighter fluid. For color consistency I would like to do a wash with Tamiya acrylics.

So I was thinking a lacquer clear would give me a good base to do the acrylic wash and allow me to use isopropyl alcohol clean up. i don’t normally use lacquer clear. Can anyone with some experience with tamiya lacquer clear coat (ts-13) let me know if I would be able to do this. I want to be able to clean off the wash without hurting the lacquer clear. I would think this should work fine but just want to make sure

Also my base colors are Tamiya acrylics so the other question. is it safe to use the lacquer clear over the acrylic base paint? Again I think the Tamiya lacquer clear is not very hot so this should work but would like to know if others have had success with this

So just to make sure I am explaining what I want to do well

tamiya acrylic base -> Tamiya ts-13 lacquer clear -> Tamiya acrylic wash ->

areas I want back pristine clean cleaned with cotton bud in isopropyl alcohol

will this work?

Thanks for any guidance.

Daniel
