I've had several disasters using metallic paint. I use normal ipa dipped with non fiberous cloth to wipe off the paint around the affected area. I dip pointy a q tip (the kind used for nails) dipped in ipaipa get into smaller areas. Let dry and repaint.

Any idea how to clean the paint off just on the wings?

Just remember, a new P-51 had it's wings puttied and painted overall flat silver. After a while, there'd be wear and tear, battle damage repair, and stuff that's removable like the gun bay covers can get repainted.

But it started out quite uniform in finish.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Your first mistake was painting in near freezing temps. That's why it started to peel. I never paint in cold temps no matter how bad I wanted to get a model done. My guess is start over on affected areas.

Help needed P51 disaster (Alclad II)

Wanted to thanks in advance for any advice. Any ideas of how to fix this without having to strip the paint and starting over? I leave Thursday to go to work for 1 month, and I still have the invasion stripes and other colors to paint, would like to get this model finished before I leave. Think I would like to take off the Tamiya Chrome Silver and just use dull aluminum on the wings.

I used a Iwata Neo gravity feed airbrush at about 18 PSI. The o ring on the nozzle was destroyed (I guess by the lacquer?) and the paint cup o-ring is also starting to degrade and not sure where to get replacements. Thinking about just going and buying a new airbrush, as mine was sputtering and had spiders when I tested the paint on an index card.

The paints I used in order (Alclad II used unless otherwise noted) and no sealer of any kind was used:

Black primer and micro filler

Gloss black primer

Tamiya X11 Chrome Silver only on the wings

Dark aluminum and Magnesium over the gun bay areas and Polished Aluminum on the rest of the surfaces (directly over the Alclad Gloss Black), and over some areas on the wings

Then last night during the storm (it was near freezing when I painted), I tried to apply White Aluminum and Dull Aluminium over select panels (trying to randomize). The paint started to peel (?) and I wetted a paper towel with laquer thinner to try to wipe off the Alclad
