Model Masters Enamels - What is going on?
Posted by Eggbert on Sunday, March 18, 2018 6:55 PM

Has anyone else noticed the decline in color variety coming out for MM Enamels?  They keep removing more and more colors from its offering.  It forces me to search ebay and hobby shops in order to buy "old new stock".

My question is this.......does anyone have a recommendation for other enamel manufacturers who maintain a decent palette?

Thanks.

You could try Humbrol. My lhs was out of light gull grey in MM, Tamiya, etc. He had one tin left in Humbrol and it worked great.

I'm still having good luck with ScaleHobbyist, and curiously, Amazon who sells for them.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

In enamels, in the USA, the only other game in town is Humbrol. If you’re in Europe there is Xtra Color and Revell.

Heh... you must have not heard Testors is eliminating certain color lines of their product then.

Correct.  I did not know or hear.  Did a quick search on the internet that really did not produce anything.  So this confirms it is not a surprise.  Thanks for the info.

I was shocked to hear this too but I don't know why they would cut them. I still see plenty of the non model master testor enamels in wide variety in Georgia(same enamel paint as model master, just without the range of historical colors). I think it might be that Acrylic is becoming more and more popular and they no longer see enamel paint as a good return on investment.
