The “worn black” looks like a good replacement for the old Floquil/Polly Scale weathered black. Thanks for the comparison.

Here’s my take..I used Mission Models paints for the first time on my last build (P-40E). Now overall I liked this paint but... I found it doesn’t perform well at low PSI for mottling (I was black basing and painting the little squiggly lines) I kept getting tip drying. Now I started out with the recommended ratios.. 2 or 3 drops of thinner, one drop of poly to 10 parts paint. Now this works good for overall painting but not for fine lines. It also doesn’t like to be thinned way down, it just looses its crap and spiders everywhere. But I do like the color range and the large 1 oz bottles and I will buy more but It just won’t replace my Tamiya paints, I can control Tamiya much more for the fine work like mottling. By the way durability seemed well with Model Mission with no lifting after masking. I primed first with Stynylrez. I also did a small amount of brush painting with it and it performed really well.

Thank you for investigating that.  So worn tire black is actually darker than tire black one

I have decided to post some pics comparing color palettes between Mission Models Tires Black 1 and Worn Tires Black / Camo. I even threw in another brand for sake of argument - Akah Old Tires Dark Grey (from Linden Hill Imports).

The 3 colors - Mission Model Tires Black 1, Akah Old Tires Dark Grey, and Mission Models Worn Tires Black Grey / Camo

As you can see, Mission Models Worn Tires Black Grey / Camo AND Akah Old Tires Dark Grey are almost exactly alike in shade while Tires Black 1 is slightly lighter in color. In closing, both Mission Models Tire colors are a must-have for all your aircraft and armour kits. I can recommend the same for Akah Old Tires Dark Grey from Linden Hill Imports as well. All 3 is worth having.

Mission Models released new colors to their line. Check out their Worn Black Grey Tires / Camo. I placed an order on a few colors including Worn Black Grey Tires / Camo.

MM NATO Black a really dark green.... impossible. There's no green in that color. I have that color in Mission Model brand. NATO Black does not have any green in it.

Tire black is really similar to what stik mentioned... grimey black.

I have both of those colors and that's what it looks like to me.

The AAVs I operated in the Marines had the tri color CARC scheme in them, and I don't remember the black in the even remotely appearing greenish.  Hence my confusion.

NATO Black is a whole different shade of black as opposed to flat black no matter the brand. So, NATO Black does have a bit of a greyish tone. Tire black is more darkish greyish black like the color of tires - not black.

Well, the mission models NATO black is as really dark green, and the tire black looks like wet cement to my eye.

I don't think the pictures I posted links to do it justice

Ive spent plenty of time around the real thing in person. When it’s freshly applied, it is a pure black. But it fades, as do the other CARC/NATO colors. Both the Black and Brown will sun fade far from their original spec color given enough time. The Green, not so much.

As far as the Mission Models Tire Black goes, when I’ve used it, it goes on in a rather light shade, somewhat similar to Polly S/Polly Scale Grimy Black. But as it dries, it darkens.

Mission Models Tire Black is a bit lighter than Tamiya Tire Black. Both are “dirty” very dark grays.

As far as real NATO Black goes, it starts out very flat and is a pure black, but when it fades, it fades to a very dark neutral gray. I never saw any take on a greenish hue like the Tamiya color.

Mission Models NATO black is the same way

I also love the paint, but I'm curious about their blacks not really being black

I have their MMP-047 and it is pure black, I think the greenish black was their NATO Black MMP-035

Don't know if y'all can see this, but I did a comparison.  In the end is regular black, next in is mission models tire black, followed by mission models NATO black

I don't how the Mission Model paints are supposed to look, but Tamiya XF-69 NATO Black is black with a bit of green tint.

I would imagine that Tire black would have a bit of brown tint.

In the past, I used testors rubber (in the square 1/4 oz jars)  to paint tires. It was a really dark brown color.

Tamiya’s NATO black is also greenish.  I don’t know if that reflects 1:1 reality though, as photos I have seen sure look black.  Tire black should be a dark grey, not straight black.

I watched them demo the paint at the Nats, and was impressed.  Their flat clear saved my bacon in the contest room, as I had to make a last minute repair using CA glue.  You know how that goes - you try to be careful but the glue always oozes out.  MMP flat was the first acrylic that I brushed that actually dried flat.

Had a question for people who know more than me.  Recently I picked up tire black and NATO Black from mission models paint.  I stirred them both and then shook the crap out of them both before using.  But when I painted them, neither really came out black.  The NATO Black was more of a really dark green and the tire black was like a wet cement color.  Did anyone else come across this?   Did I do something wrong?

NEW MEX

I had to switch to acrylics due to health reasons and after seeing reviews for Mission Models Paint I gave them a try. I use a Patriot 105 with 0.3mm needle and tip and use a ratio of 5% thinner to paint with a couple of drops of poly and get great results.Their primer I use 5-10% thinner. This is my go to paint now and I'm very happy with it.

Mine too, I'm slowly weeding out all the Vallejo I had in exchange for MMP.

Thanks Laskdjn for the reply. That's what I had to do with he primer to get it to work.I Did find that the M.M. paint is much thinner right outta the bottle & I was able to spray closer to their ratio's .I must agree with everyone else's comments as for how well it works.I am impressed. I was able to use a 2 m.m. needle & nozzle on my AB with Zero nozzle drying or clogging. I was able to do an Octopus camo pattern on an Trumpeteer E-5- chassis w/ a Paper Panzed Prod. Einheitsturm 1947 resin turret. Hope to post pix when done. The other nice thing is how easy cleaning the AB so thoroughly with their thinner, always a good thing . Thanks again, keith R.

I was just so used to fighting dry tip with vallejo that using mmp was so effortless.

Hi laskdjn. Wher'd you get the 10:5:2 ratio ? The instructions on the website say to use 20-40 drops paint to 4-6 drops thinner. I tried that on their black primer & it was like sludge. It was barely sprayable & I had to wing it by adding much more thinner [ probably closer to what you did ] . After that,it did spray & work wonderfully.Plus, using their thinner to clean my airbrush was a breeze.Later today,I'm gonna put the finish color on,hoping the paint thins better than the primer, especially with adding their polymer additive.Anyone else run into what I did ? Thanks. Keith R.

Keith,

I came up with that ratio through experimentation.  I tried their percentages first, I then altered it to the point where I thought I got the best performance.
