Well, too late now, I painted my vision blocks tonight, but definitely next tank

You can never have too many M1s.

Never owned one. but I did own a replica M14 that was my favorite rifle ever.

It really went "boom".

When I was at the range it attracted the envy crowd.

I had a drafting table neighbor who was a Marine from the same era as our father's. He brought in his range book one time.

I was referring to M1 Abrams....

But I am also a big fan of the M1 Carbine, M1 Garand, and Springfield M1A rifles. I own one each of the first two, and hope that one day I will add one of the latter to my collection. All are great to shoot. And no, you can never have too many of them either.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Yeah, I don't remember that coating on the AAVs I worked on.  I guess I'll just do the transparent red over gunmetal.

Clear red over black looks godd or just gloss black is good as well (mine is the Academy 1/35)

Easy to re do if you dont like it at least. Don't remeber seeing green on any photos but not sure how you would get both.

The green is looking from the inside in that photo, don't think Iv'e seen green from the outside, I did mine black on the M1A1 and most photos of the aslav are red so mine are red on the aslav but this photo has both colours,

as Don said it's the angle you look at them.

I could swear that Echelon, or a company like that made some little sticker type items, pre cut, that were exactly for that purpose. They had the reflectiveness and color changing properties of the real anti laser coating. I have also read on here of folks using Mylar confetti from party supply stores for the same purpose, and costing a good deal less...

There are filters in those instruments known as interference filters.  These things reflect different colors at different angles.  So virtually any color is legit.  The effect should be a mostly black with just a hint of some color.  It should be the same color across the aperture, so dry brushing does not work.  You can either mix up your own tint from clear and a color, or just use one of those commercial tint colors.  The aperture should look very high gloss.  You can use any color because each color reflects from a different angle and you cannot see which angle the brightest spot in the scene is when normally displaying your model.

Gunze makes a range of color shifting paint, called "Mazora", one of which shifts between magenta/red and green but these are pretty expensive. Lucky Model lists them at $20+ (USD).

I've done clear red over dark metallic grey/gunmetal and it looks fine to me.

M1A1 Vision Block Color

How does one obtain that strange coloration of tank vision blocks.  They're kinda red from one angle but turn green from another.
