Priming and masking question.

Ok, I am getting back into the hobby after a long time away. My first builds are taking longer than they probably should due to silly mistakes creating additional work. No big deal, I have been taking notes and making myself a little build sequence highlighting mistakes so they aren't repeated.

Anyway, yesterday afternoon I primed my model with AK primer and micro filler. I left it for approximately 3 to 4 hours then masked up the first stage of the camo scheme then left it for the night.

I painted the first stage then went to remove the masking tape and found that in places the adheisive was getting left on the model. I used Tamiya masking tape.

I am guessing I masked up the model too early and should have left the model to dry overnight.

Does this sound correct?
