Gravity Colors

Has anyone used Gravity Colors?  What type of paint is it?  Acrylic, enamel or laquer?  They do automotive colors which the hobby needs for sure.

According to the FAQ tab on their site they are a solvent based paint.

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

They defiantly have great colors. Just beware... I have seen quite a few posts on orders taking months and months to get once ordered. It appears their customer service is very lacking. I don’t like to bad mouth anyone but this seems to be a real issue with them. Perhaps they are filling more orders than they can handle? I wish I could find them from a third party site but I have never seen them anywhere else except their own site. Hopefully they will get things straightened out because your right there needs to be more automotive colors out there.

I just tried ordering from them and gave up. I signed up for their newsletter and received a code for 10% off my first order but no matter how many times I entered the code the discount wouldn't show up. Then I saw that they process payments thru Paypal which for reasons I won't go discuss I refuse to use so I cancelled. I also emailed them for help but so far haven't received a reply but that was only a few hours ago.

None of this sounds encouraging.  I did place an order last night for a couple paints and mask set.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks,

John

I tried to order $40 of paint last spring. The order was processed to my credit card and after 10 weeks with no delivery, and no responses to my inquiries, I cancelled the charge with my credit card company. Gravity Colors did not challenge it so I got a permanent reversal of the charge.

I raised this issue on the Model Car magazine forum and found the following:

1. The paint, when you get it, is the best but 8 weeks delay is not abnormal.

2. On  the other hand some people who ordered paint are getting their orders promptly delivered.

3. The US company that uses the web address gravitycolors.com is a distributor for the Spanish company that uses the web address gravity-colors.com and is apparently the actual manufacturer. They are separate companies although the web pages look almost identical.

4. I suspect that either the manufacturer is not prompt about making deliveries to the US distributor, or the distributor is having trouble handling the business, and/or paying outstanding invoices in order keep the supply coming. See number 2. above. Conceivably,  if the distributor has stock on hand they will deliver promptly.

5. gravity-colors does ship internationally, so I’m going to try ordering directly with them next time I want one of their colors.

As an alternative to Gravity paint you might want to try Zero Paints. Their US distributor is Hobby World USA, http://www.hobbyworld-usa.com/Store/index.php, and they're easy to work with and responsive if you need help as I did. I tried them yesterday after reading the negatives about Gravity and was more than pleased. I've used Zero paint before and like it very much. It's a lacquer and dries to a semi gloss so you'll need a clear coat to finish the job.

Good news - I got a ship notification with a USPS tracking number which says my order will be delivered Saturday.

Thanks,

John

Good deal!!... did you order from the US vendor or from Europe? I think the issues everyone was having was from the US vendor.

I have ordered from Gravity EU, with the dash. It took less than a week to receive my order. I have not dealt with Gravity USA mainly due to all of the negative feedback.

Update on this - I had 2 orders from July 2018 that never showed up and an order from this September that hasn't showed up.  I've filled PayPal and BBB complaints.

BBB says the following:

Customer Complaints

58 complaints closed in last 3 years IndifferentIndifferent

22 complaints closed in last 12 months IndifferentIndifferent

Stay away from the Gravity Colors US site.  I hear good things about UK.

Thanks,

John

Use the Spanish company web site, not the US one. The 2 companies supposedly no longer have a relationship with each other. Shipping from Spain to the US via DHL is inexpensive and fast. As for Zero Paint from HobbyWorld USA, I've recently had issues with HobbyWorld servcie. You can also get Zero paints from UpScaleModels in the US. Another US supplier of lacquer model car paints is Splash Paints out of Seattle.

Will do in the future.

Update - PayPal complaint got a lot of traction.  Sounds like all my orders are being bundled and shipped and some level of refund on shipping.  So that's good news - but I'm curious why the numerous emails I sent fell on deaf ears but one PayPal note opened a conversation.

Thanks,

John

I've dealt with Hobby World service twice with one being a few weeks ago and had great results both times. My only problem with them is some items show as being in stock but aren't. When you click on the buy tab if it then  turns orange then the item is actually out of stock. The problem is being worked on and my issue was resolved overnight. Great place to do business with.

Because if Paypal decides they don't like him, it makes doing business that much harder.

My last order from HobbyWorld USA went very bad. Everything was in stock before & after I ordered. After several weeks I emailed them with no response. Had to go through Paypal. Items then shipped immediately, but were VERY poorly packaged. Paint bottle broke and ruined everything in the order. Had to go back to Paypal for a refund.
