Revell color call out Q.
Posted by Rory T on Thursday, July 5, 2018 11:40 PM

Hello, I am starting on Revells 1\48th Gr-4 Tornado I am working on my color setup for doing this bad boy and have limited experince with British aircraft, not sure about 2 colors from revell 371Ral 7035 and 374Ral7001, on cross refrence they are very close in color and was wondering if I could use either tam xf-53 or MM-4750 Euro 1 gray for Revells 374 call out. and VA 71.046 for 371????. any advice on this would be great. Thank you.

I would start with the offical RAF colour call ouits and look for the best matches to those. Up to 2007 the GR.4's wore a 2 grey scheme of dark sea grey and dark camo grey. From 2007 it went to an overall Med sea grey with dark sea grey radome. There is a really useful paint conversion chart which unfortunatly i can't give you the link to at the moment, but hopefully some one else can.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I would start with the actual spec., forget whichever of their paints Revell wants to sell you. Tamiya does not even pretend to match colors to historic subjects with only a few excepts like Kure Grey and a couple of IJN aircraft colors.

Id look at what Humbrol suggests.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
