wet paper masking

The tissue I used had a glaze- it was gift wrapping tissue, that would cut with a clean edge.  I also use facial tissues for masking wheel wells and cockpits- I dampen it with water so it will hold its shape when it dries.

I've used facial tissue for things like landing gear wells, engine intakes. But it doesn't provide a clean edge and it's no substitute for a little tape with dry paper behind on the bigger areas.

Hi all, Does anyone mask with wet paper? I did it a couple times with supplied masks, and it worked well. The main question is, if you want to do your own, whats the best paper to use? Any advice would be appericated. Thanks much. AARDVARK   Keep on modeling

 

I tried it a couple of times.  I found it worked so-so.  It was a lot of work, especially over compound curve areas.  I found it more work than masking tape.  And any savings of money is negligible.  I used tissue paper.

Another non-tape option is frisket paper.  However, it only works well on flat or single-curvature surfaces of moderate curvature.  Neat thing is it is translucent, so you can see detail underneath to see exactly where you are masking, and you can lay it over a drawing to cut the frisket paper.
