Airbrushing finish problems
Posted by Redwin98 on Sunday, August 12, 2018 11:24 PM

Hi there, I’m a brand new modeller just painting my first model, it’s a TaMiya T-34/76. I’m painting with a single action Testors airbrush with Humbrol enamel thinned out with off the shelf mineral spirits.  It came out with a bit of an orange peel finish but the part that concerns me is it has little white blotches here and there. If anyone else has encountered this problem I just want to know what causes it and how I could fix it. Cheers!

Airbrushing is a process with lots of variables. I think it is good to elimate as many of those as possible, especially when new and learning.

Using mineral spirits of an unknown nature (no two have much in common, from what I've read over the years), IMO is a variable you do not want. I'd advise getting hold of a jar of Humbrol enamel thinner, and sticking with manufacturers own thinners for your airbrushing at least until you have a basic feel for the process.

Good luck to you, congrats on your initial post, and welcome to the forum.
