so i looked further and found that the primer is in fact what was pulling up mostly. i used alclad primer and micro filler. though on a test piece the vallejo still pulled up. im going to see if i cant find an enamel version of the camoflauge gray

From experience Acryl will lift even when using a solvent type primer. I have sprayed Tamiya acrylics on to bare plastic and had no lifting issues at all.
I just tried Vallejo Air on an F4 I’m doing and yes it sprays ok (but not as good as enamel) and it scratches VERY easily! I had a light marbling coat of black enamel under it but will not attempt any masking just in case.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
I've completely stopped using Modelmaster acrylics if I'll need to mask because it partially pulls off when removing the tape. I recently had it happen for what will be the last time when I airbrushed it over well cured Tamiya primer. It's otherwise fine to use. I've never had a problem using Tamiya acrylic and it makes no difference whether it's over primer or not because it stays put. The problem with Tamiya is it's limited list of colors and poor performance when brushing although adding Tamiya retarder helps a great deal.
I agree Tamiya acrylics aren't all that great brushing wise - except for metallics or painting small areas (ie: cockpit fiddley bits and like pieces). Airbrushing Tamiya acrylics I've had zero issues with. Maybe it's because I've got the thinner / paint ratio figured out.

This is a problem I have had for some time with Tamiya Acrylics .That's why I don't like them . Plus , it has lousy brushability without doctoring the paint ! T.B.
Use a good primer like Tamiya or Gunze, allow it time to properly dry & cure, then apply your Vallejo colors. They should stick to the base primer just fine.
I think Plastic Prep is better for pre cleaning if need be vs IPA or Brown Ales. Of course I much prefer German Beers to IPAs or Brown Ales most of the time.

You didn't say what your "new" primer is. I assume THAT is what's pulling up.
Also, I don't like cleaning my model with IPA. I use brown ale...

I hate Vallejo due to their vinyl like finish. Testors Model Master has camouflage grey in both enamel and acrylics.
I do know for a fact Mission Model brand carries Camouflage Grey. Look in scalehobbyist.com website.
So i got frustrated enough to make a profile so i could ask for yalls help. ive steered clear of airbrushing acrylics for years but my 1/72 academy f35 needs camoflauge gray and i cant find it in enamel, so i got the valejo bottle. sprays great but even with my new primer and cleaning the surface with ipa, it still peels when i take the masking tape off. im pulling my hair out, how do you stop this?
