I'd like to add my opinion, give Stynylrez another thumbs-up.

According to Badger, Stynylrez is "a water based acrylic polyurethane".

Like Patrick, (and actually due to Patrick), it's been my go-to primer for a couple of years.

I follow label directions on nozzle size and pressure and spray it neat.

The 3-D printed parts are 1/300 ship weapons. Very small intricate fiddly bits, so no sanding will be happening.

Hi, Stick -

Badger Stynylrez has been my exclusive one now for a couple of years, the gray one works best for me, black is OK, white is not so good. Some of it's good traits are:

It sticks very well.

Very durtable surface.

Sands well.

Really a smooth airbrushed surface.

I can spray straight from the bottle, but usually thin the last coat with 91% or distilled water.

Sorry, no info about 3D.

Best primer I have ever tried, highly recommended

I was reading up on that stuff on Badger’s website. Do you airbrush it straight from the bottle or thin it with something?

Badger Stynylrez (sp) worked much better than Vallejo, for me.

stik,

I've used badger stynylrez primer a few times and it works pretty good. It's on the thick side and needs to be sprayed at higher pressures but it levels wonderfully. Comes in a few different colors too.

Acrylic Primer?

I recently purchased some 3-D printed parts for an upcoming project. After reading up on the items, one of the specifics mentioned about the material is to use acrylic hobby paints for painting, due to issues that have arisen in the past between the plastic material used and enamel paints. Solvents have a tendency to attack the plastic. My preferred primers are either enamels, such as Humbrol, or those that use a solvent based thinner such as Tamiya Liquid Surface Primer and Gunze Mr Surfacer. I have never heard one good thing about acrylic primers that do not use a solvent based thinner such as Model Master or Vallejo. Primarily they have adhesion issues. Can anybody recommend another brand of acrylic primer that you have used, and hopefully has used that primer on 3-D printed parts.
