Question ;

 Are you using a primer ? this could be your problem ! I Always use a Primer . My favorite either Decanted or in Rattle Can is and always will be Rust - Oleum !

I did not, but I just bought another set of X-Wing Star fighter and realised it the crack was due to the quality of the X-Wing. I also bought Primer for this current X-Wing but I tried without Primer on some parts and it did fine.

My initial crack model was a Bandai 2017 Model, all text in box were english, on top of that the model had some differences, I shall take photos later and shared with you all, in case anyone is looking to buying a X-wing model, I recommend to get the old set. Produce somewhere around 2014.

Wow, that's crazy looking.  Did you paint the light area of the engine?  I looks like bear plastic to me.

I doubt the weathering is causing the cracks, it think it's just revealing them.

When I zoom in close it looks like the model iteself has cracked.  Look at the rib where the crack crosses, you can see that the rib is offset on either side of the crack.  What does it feel like when you run your finger across the crack?

It's a crack, and yes I painted on bare plastic, I reckon it was due to the quality of the model. And I'm very sure the crack is due to the weathering.

Is this a bandai kit? If so the cracking is due to using a strong thinner when weathering. Bandai plastic is strange it happened to my AT-ST build due to my clear coat I used. I just ended up blending it in as battle damage. Google search it and you'll find alot of people that it's happened to including a guy on the rpf that had cracks come up all over his expensive perfect grade falcon build. They are very beautifully done kits but when it comes to weathering stick to using acrylic based products, Flory makes some excellent washes that works great for this situation.

Yes it is a Bandai Kit, I'm using Mr Weather WC01 Black, I did not add any thinner to it. Yes I googled and found alot of people having these issue. But now I have new issue, i failed on my decals and am in need of new ones. Wondering if anyone has any idea where can I get them.

Yet again, I find myself amazed at the information available from the minds of folks here.

I never in a million years expected a definitive answer to the OP.

Cracked part on model, help needed

Hi,

I'm pretty new to this, so I just bought a X-Wing 1/72 unit and upon finish assembling,

I used the tamiya acrylic paint to paint a few parts, including the engine area, after which I applied the tamiya weathering onto it and I just learned that the crack on my engine might be due to insufficient time of curing.

But I suffer a crack on the side of my plane as well, in fact my another model sand trooper had cracks immediately after I applied the weathering onto it.

May I know what causes it? Am i suppose to apply a layer of protection? or was I applying too much of weathering?
