How to brushpaint vallejo model color?
Posted by commietank on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 5:41 PM

Hi, I only brushpaint models and don't plan to start airbrushing anytime soon. I am planning to switch from Vallejo Model Color from Tamiya Acrylic paint after doing some research and realizing it took and unecessary amount of effort for average results with Tamiya paints. I have some questions about Vallejo Model Color paints:

1) How they should be used (Eg, how and what to thin with, if primer is needed etc.)

2)How strong of a smell is there from Vallejo model color paints and what the smell is like.

3) How toxic/non-toxic vallejo model color paints are and what types of safety precautions should be taken while brushpainting vallejo model color.

Thanks for reading.

I would think it would brush out fine. If you see brush strokes not leveling out or over lapping strokes not blending in then add a drop of retarder or flow aid.. Actually the same goes for any acrylic paints. I'd go with retarder first which will also be the most useful later on should you decide to get into airbrushing. But try it first and if you need an additive, less is more, sneak up on the right blend vs over use.

1) Vallejo hand brushes great thinned with just distilled water. I fill a couple tubs in my palette with same and am ready to brush away. If it is a long session, you might want to use some Vallejo Retarder to keep the paint wet longer. I rarely do though.

2) None

3) I'd say none, again.

Vallejo is my favorite paint to brush on. I hope you like it too.
